In theory, this vineyard should produce a more structured and weighty wine, sitting on the southern side of Nuits-Saint-Georges where the soils are richer in iron and generally heavier. Combined with a vintage of extremes, marked by both ripeness and high acidity, and reflected here in the dark colour, the expectation could easily be for something more forceful. Instead, the wine is beautifully balanced. The texture is a clear strength, a very well-managed extraction, thoughtful whole bunch use, and oak that supports rather than dominates. Just as importantly, it speaks clearly of both the grape and the appellation, while still carrying the unmistakable signature of Pierre-Olivier. The finish is steady, long enough, and well held.
